The Pink Panther Plant — properly known as Callisia repens 'Pink Panther' — is a charming, compact semi-succulent prized for its dense mats of tiny, waxy, oval leaves strikingly variegated in pink, cream, and green, with a rich burgundy-purple underside. Native to Mexico, Central America, and the West Indies, it grows as a low, creeping ground cover in its natural habitat and translates beautifully indoors as a trailing houseplant for shelves, desktops, and hanging baskets. Its vivid pink coloring intensifies with brighter light, rewarding attentive placement with ever more vibrant foliage. Fast-growing and exceptionally easy to propagate from stem cuttings, the Pink Panther Plant is a favorite among collectors and beginners alike — a small plant that makes an outsized impression wherever it is displayed.
Plant care
Sunlight: Bright indirect light indoors; more light intensifies pink variegation — avoid harsh direct sun which can scorch delicate leaves
Watering: Water thoroughly when the top layer of soil begins to dry; do not allow to sit in soggy soil or dry out completely
Soil: Well-draining potting mix; a blend formulated for houseplants or succulents with added perlite works best
Fertilizing: Once a month during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer at a reduced dose; skip in winter
Pruning: Pinch back stem tips regularly to encourage dense, bushy growth; cuttings root easily in water for new plants
Hardiness: USDA zones 9–11 outdoors; best kept as a houseplant in most regions; keep above 60°F (16°C)
